Privacy Policy
Effective November 2, 2026
DarkRoll is a disposable film camera app for iPhone and Android made by Feel Tomorrow LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the DarkRoll app and darkroll.app collect, why, and the choices you have.
- Your photos stay on your device unless you share or publish a roll.
- We use Google Firebase to run sharing, analytics and crash reports.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- You can unpublish rolls in the app and ask us to delete your data at any time.
What we collect
Photos you choose to share
- Publishing to Explore. When you publish a roll, we upload its contact sheet with the roll's title, film type, your username and publish date. Published rolls are public: anyone can see them in Explore in the app and on darkroll.app. Reactions other people add are stored with the roll.
- Shooting with friends. Photos taken on a shared roll are uploaded so everyone on the roll can see them. The nickname you choose appears on your frames. Anyone with the roll's link can join and shoot on it.
- Sending a roll. When you send a roll to someone, its photos are uploaded so the recipient can download them.
Photos you don't share are processed and stored only on your device. DarkRoll can save exported photos to your photo library, asking permission first where your phone requires it; it doesn't read your library.
Identifiers
- An anonymous account ID, created automatically when you first open the app. It isn't tied to your name, email or phone number.
- The username you create to publish, and nicknames you use on shared rolls.
- On iPhone, a push token for Live Activities, so a shared roll's progress can update on your Lock Screen.
Usage and diagnostics
- Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase): which screens and features you use, such as onboarding steps, rolls started and finished, share options, Explore visits, paywall views and subscription events. Firebase also collects your device model, OS and app version, an app-instance identifier, and an approximate location derived from your IP address (country or region). Events are linked to your anonymous account ID.
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): what went wrong, the device state at the time, and app context such as the film in progress, the onboarding step and whether you have Pro.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Apple on iPhone and by Google Play on Android. We never see your card, Apple Account or Google Account details. We record which plan you choose, its price and currency, and subscription status changes such as trials, renewals, cancellations and refunds, to provide DarkRoll Pro and understand how the app is doing.
Support requests and the waitlist
When you contact us, we keep your name, email, message and basic technical details (browser and approximate country) so we can reply, plus a one-way hash of your IP address for an hour to limit spam. When you send feedback from the app, we keep your message, the email you add (optional), your anonymous account ID, approximate country, and the app version, operating system version, device model, language and region settings and whether you have Pro, so we can reproduce problems. If you joined the waitlist on darkroll.app, we keep the email, platform, country and optional Instagram handle you entered, and your browser type.
What we don't collect
No precise location, contacts, advertising identifier (Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising ID), browsing history or health data. We don't use your data for advertising and we don't sell or rent it.
How we use data
- To run the features you use: publishing, Explore, reactions, shared rolls and sending rolls.
- To provide DarkRoll Pro and restore purchases.
- To understand how the app is used, fix bugs and improve it.
- To keep the community safe, including reviewing content that is reported to us.
- To answer support requests.
Who processes it
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Hosting, Analytics, Crashlytics) stores and processes data for us on Google's servers, which may be in the United States and other countries.
- Apple and Google process App Store and Google Play purchases.
- An email provider delivers support messages to our inbox.
These providers act on our behalf under their own terms and data protection commitments.
How long we keep it
- Published rolls stay public until you unpublish them or ask us to delete them.
- Shared and sent rolls are kept while they're active, and deleted with your data on request.
- Analytics events are kept for up to 14 months. Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.
- Support messages are kept as long as needed to help you, and then deleted.
Your choices and rights
- Unpublish a roll from Explore at any time from its Share screen.
- Deleting the app removes the photos stored on your device.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, including your published rolls, username, shared rolls and analytics linked to your account. Use the support form and choose "Privacy & data deletion", or email contact@darkroll.app.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have further rights, including objecting to processing and data portability. We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, we process data to provide the app you asked for (contract), and for analytics, crash reporting and safety on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and improving DarkRoll.
Children
DarkRoll isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access to our systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you as the law requires if a breach affects you.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. For significant changes, we'll let you know in the app.
